About Us

Caron Signs, Municipal Truck LetteringCaron Signs was started in 1948 by Lawrence "Joe" Caron as a part time job to supplement his income.  At that time he was employed by the Maine Warden Service making $20 per week.  Joe hand lettered & striped vehicles & signs on his days off to support his family.  After retiring from the Warden Service in 1976 he worked full time in the sign business.

In 1985 Joe was joined by his son Pete, who left a career in law enforcement to learn the business, and he took the family sign business into the computer age as well as adding Carved Gold leafed sign work.  Joe retired from the sign business in 1988 and Pete continued on with his wife Lisa, who joined him full time that same year.
The sign business and customer base continued to grow at their Winterport, Maine location and Caron Signs moved from a spare bedroom to a 1300 sq. ft. garage in 1989.  In addition to two high speed Gerber vinyl cutters, a state of the art Digital Printer was added in 1994.  A Computerized Sabre 404 Router was purchased in 1995.  This was the first Sabre Router the manufacturer, Gerber Scientifics Products, sold to a production sign shop.  The router revolutionized the sign industry and allowed even more creativity to be added to their carved sign work.  After several more small expansions that added up to 2800 sq. ft., Caron Signs was busting at the seams and needed more room and more help.

In September of 2002, Caron Signs moved into a new 5400 sq. ft. production facility at the Coldbrook Business Park in Hermon, Maine, built specifically to meet the needs of their customers.  A large truck bay accommodates any size vehicle and a large production area allows for a wide variety of sign work, including digitally printed logos, graphics and photos.  In addition, computer routed signs that allows creativity to abound. lettering, colors, styles, and effects are almost unlimited.  Interior store display sign work for supermarkets and retail stores has also been added to meet the needs of customers.

Jumping to 2006 Caron Signs was purchased by Dennis Cross as an investment opportunity. The shop remains in Hermon but is now servicing clients all over New England. Dennis handed the management of the business to Robb Pawson, who is bringing Caron Signs into a new age by introducing vehicle wraps, 3-D and shaped signs, and an ever expanding arsenal of top of the line technology, equipment and products. With the addition of a Roland Soljet wide format printer, the latest cutting edge design software, and the highest quality materials along with the creativity and many years of experience, Caron Signs is prepared to meet any sign need.

From its modest beginnings in a spare bedroom turned office and a toolbox full of lettering brushes and paints, to a state of the art production facility. Caron Signs strives to provide their customers with a professional image and prides itself with creative designs from traditional to radical cutting edge.

The Caron Sign team hopes you enjoy viewing the images of their sign work as much as they enjoyed producing it. Please contact them with any sign or lettering project you may need. They will work with you and do everything possible to meet your schedule.  Caron Signs looks forward to helping you and your business make a great first impression to your customers.
